The male red-shafted flicker is a woodpecker that lives close to our home. They seem to like being near people and have a very loud call. My wife, Bev, walked with our spaniels in the woods and told me about meeting wildlife and birds, especially the red-shafted flicker so I decided to paint this regal-looking bird for memories of her walking our dogs.
