This is an imaginary bird. And a long story. The abridged version: it began as a riff on Van Gogh's Irises, ended up as just one iris, inverted and altered to become a bird in the leaves. See any resemblance to Vincent's Irises? Hint turn it upside-down and see if you a blue iris! I discovered this totally by accident and love the serendipity of a composition taking a turn for the better.
